I feel sure that every man, who has reared children, has heard this request many, many times, Daddy fix this. The good father always tries to mend that which is broken. It may be a broken toy or a small broken heart, but we, as parents, cannot but try to correct whatever is bringing pain, sorrow heartache to our children. This is right and as it should be. I also believe there is an external principal involved.
Jesus said, “”If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!”(Matt 7:11) “”If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you” (John 15:7), Just a page later, we read, “Verily, verily, I say unto you, whatsoever ye shall ask the Father in my name, he will give it you” (John 16:23). James 5:16 says “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” However, God insists that we not try to use Him as a means for the satisfaction of our worldly lusts. “Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts”. “Ye ask and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts”. “Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts.”(James 4:3)
- Several things are worthy of our attention.
- We must humble ourselves before God and ask.
- We must be in Christ and have His Word abiding in us.
- Our requests must be in Christ’s name.
- We must be sincere and fervent if we expect God to respond.
- We must realize that God will not grant those things that will be harmful to His children nor will He answer a prayer to fulfill our worldly lust.
If we are willing to accept these divine conditions, and meet God’s requirement for prayers, we have the wonderful privilege of taking our problems and sorrows, our fears and our needs, to a loving Father, and with true child-like faith say, “Father fix this”. In His loving kindness, He will always do that which is best for all of us.
