If we believe the fate of our country depends on voting for the right man or woman we are in serious trouble because our faith is obviously misplaced. “Thus saith the Lord; Cursed be the man that trusted in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord” (Jer. 17:5; cf. Ps. 118:8-9). It was not a lack of votes or the wrong man that caused Sodom to fall; it was wickedness (Gen. 13:13; 18:20-32; 19:13,24-25). It was not a lot of votes or the right man that allowed Ninevah to stand; it was godly repentance        (Jon. 3:4-10). When will citizens across this fruited plain understand that repentance and righteousness towards God is what the country needs? “Righteousness exalts a nation: but sin is a reproach to any people”            (Pr. 14:34). “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance” (Ps. 33:12).

If we really want to turn our commonwealth around then Christians need plead to the Great Deliverer (Rom. 11:26). God can make a difference (Jer. 32:17; Eph. 3:20). He delivered righteous Lot from wicked Sodom (2 Pet. 2:7). He delivered the apostle Paul from the lion’s mouth (2 Tim. 4:17). He delivered the Hebrew boys from the fiery furnace (Dan. 3). He delivered Israel from Egyptian bondage (Ex. 2:23-25; 3:8; 12:50-51). He delivered Daniel from the lion’s den. (Dan. 6:16-23). And, God is able to deliver a godly America too (2 Pet. 2:9). If the righteous call on him and we do our part he will help us (Ps. 46:1; Hos. 13:9). This is why we must always evangelize (Matt. 28:19-20; Mar; 16:15-16). The Lord promised, “If my people which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land” (2 Chr. 7:14; 6:30-31).

Therefore, we must not be guilty of being more political than pious, or spending more time campaigning for votes than souls. “…he that winneth souls is wise” (Pr. 11:30). Can the wicked of the world really thwart the intentions of the Sovereign Lord? Absolutely not, “…the foundation of God standeth sure…” (2 Tim. 2:19). My friends, Christian heads are not buried in the sand because they look to the clouds before looking to the ballot box    (Heb. 12:2; 8:1). Heaven is the place where authority, holiness, and justice derives (John 19:11; Rom. 13:1). The Almighty can do all things (Job 42:2; 40:9-14; Eph. 3:20). Godly change does not begin with the White House or

with the Congress; it begins with God’s House (1 Tim. 3:15; Heb. 3:6). Pray for the repentance, salvation, and direction of our nation (Neh. 1:6-11; 1 Tim. 2:1-4; 1 John 5:14). Remember to daily evangelize. But, never forget, “…the MOST HIGH RULETH in the kingdom of men…” (Dan. 4:25; 5:21).
