Faith in God’s House – Not the White House

If we believe the fate of our country depends on voting for the right man (or woman), then we are in some serious trouble, because our faith/trust is obviously misplaced and misguided. “Thus saith the Lord; CURSED BE THE MAN THAT TRUSTETH IN MAN, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the Lord” (Jer. 17:5; Ps. 118:8-9).

It was not a lack of votes or the wrong man that caused Sodom to fall. It was a lack of righteousness!! (Gen. 13:13; 18:20-32; 19:13, 24-25). It was not a lot of votes or the right man that caused Nineveh to stand. It was repentance!! (Jon. 3:4-10). When will the citizens all across this fruited plain understand that repentance and righteousness towards God is what the people need? “RIGHTEOUSNESS EXALTS A NATION: but sin is a reproach to any people” (Pr. 14:34; Ps. 33:12).

If we really want to turn our commonwealth around, or be delivered from it, then CHRISTIANS NEED TO FERVENTLY AND DAILY WAIL IN ANGUISH BEFORE THE GREAT DELIVERER (Is. 59:20; Rom. 11:26; Gal. 1:4). He delivered righteous Lot from wicked Sodom (2 Pet. 2:7). He delivered the bold apostle Paul out of the mouth of a lion (2 Ti. 4:17). He delivered the unwavering Hebrews boys out of the fiery furnace (Dan. 3). He delivered crying Israel from Egyptian bondage (Ex. 2:23-25; 3:8). He delivered faithful Daniel: “O Daniel, servant of the living God, is thy God, whom thou servest continually, able to deliver thee from the lions? … My God hath sent his angel, and hath shut the lions mouths…” (Dan. 6:20, 22). Our God is able to deliver the godly of America too (2 Pet. 2:9). We just need to call on Him in faithful obedience and then trust that He will help us (Nah. 1:7; Ps. 46:1). The Lord IS our helper (Heb. 4:16; 13:6; Ps. 27:1)!

The Lord promised, “IF MY PEOPLE WHICH ARE CALLED BY MY NAME, SHALL HUMBLE THEMSELVES, AND PRAY, AND SEEK MY FACE, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will HEAL THEIR LAND” (2 Chr. 7:14).

Could we sometimes be guilty of being more political than pious, spending more time politically campaigning for men rather than evangelistically campaigning for the Son of Man? Can wicked men really thwart the intentions of the Sovereign Lord? No way! “…the foundation of God standeth sure…” (2 Ti. 2:19). My friends, Christian heads are not buried in the sand just because they look to the heavens (Heb. 12:2; 8:1). Heaven is where absolute authority, righteousness, and justice derives (Jn. 19:11; Deut. 32:4; Ro. 13:1).

The Almighty CAN do all things (Job 42:2; Eph. 3:20). “Is anything too hard for the Lord?” (Gen. 18:14). No (Jer. 32:17). “Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth” (Rev. 19:6)!

Therefore, godly change does not begin with the White House or with Congress; it begins with God’s House/us (1 Ti. 3:15; Heb. 3:6). Pray for the direction and salvation of our nation and world (Neh. 1:6-11; 1 Ti. 2:1-4; 1 Jn. 5:14). Evangelistically, labor for it (1 Co. 3:6, 9; 15:58). And then let us never forget, “…the MOST HIGH (STILL) RULETH in the kingdom of men…” (Dan. 4:25; 5:21).
